Robot Rising Art Mega-Dump!

Well, it happened...shows over for the art team at Stomp games. I've been at the studio (including it's previous incarnation, Tencent Boston) for over 3 years, through some great times and some serious turbulence.   I've made incredible friends and been inspired by so many people.  I am also, however, glad to be moving on, as it's high time to get my career back in the direction I had intended for it.

Here's a sampling of what I've been busy on at work for the past year or so.  ...cept maybe for that last guy. What the hell is he doing there?!

Chipping away at the skin and spec, trying to get the right balance between that and the metal.  Tomorrow I need to jump on the hair, as it's the last non-polish thing for me to tackle.  Would love crits if anyone's got em!

Gettin' closer

So close to done on the bakes!  I doing all I can to keep myself from jumping ahead on the textures, but just a few more errors to iron out on the bakes and its go time.

So, I had to build a new PC this weekend after having mine go on the fritz. Lost me some time, but a perfect excuse to upgrade to a beast of a new rig!

Holy damn...I have been staring at this thing way too long.  Here's my latest! Hopefully someone other than me will notice the progress.  Still a few things that need doing on the detail side of things.  On the back-end, the retopo and bakes have been keeping me busy, but are almost ready.  Can't wait to paint!

Also,  a peek at my lunchtime project, which i'm looking forward to wrapping once I get this out.

GW2 Character progress

More of less been wrapped on the high poly pass on this.  Had quite a bit of trail and error on the treatment of the fur, but I've come down on a solutions that works fairly well when baked down.  I've moved on into retopo and baking of the low poly, so should have her ready for final textures soon.

DOTA/MOBA Challenge Giganto process drop

So, this is the other thing I haven't bothered to post here.  A few weeks ago, I initiated an internal art challenge for the studio art group.  We got a bunch of enthusiastic participants, which was awesome to see, and not we're pushing to get things wrapped up before the deadline!  I've been posting progress to share with the guys, so I've got a nice progression showing off my process for creating the character.

Everyone agreed the spine design was much more interesting, despite being a lot trickier to figure out

Super excited about this one, cause my good friend and master rigger Christophe Marchal agreed to build an epic rig for this char, which is already blowing my mind.  Now the pressures on to make her badass!

Still churning ahead on this one!  Man, I got hardsurface comin out my ears.  Starting retopo on a few select pieces, but still need another solid pass on detailing on the cloth and fur before I can call the source mesh final.

DOTA Art challenge

So here's what that face I posted was for.  I got a group together with many of my art colleagues from work to do a collective art jam and design our own character for Dota or League of Legends.  I've been bouncing around ideas a bit, so I thought I'd show what I've got.  As usual for this phase of things, I'm once more stuck on nailing a concept down that I feel I can really commit to, so I need to hit PS a bit tonight to see if I can turn up anything that jumps out at me.

Expression study

Workin on a little challenge we set up at work, for which i need a slightly evil/crazy femme fatale, so I thought I'd do a study to try to nail it down.  Noodle city man...expressions aren't easy, but things are makin a bit more sense now.  Will have more from this project to share as things get rolling.  Stay tuned!

Bonus! so... couldn't stop noodling, which means sleep deprivation tomorrow, but I did figure out a pretty sweet way to paint up a mesh in PS.  Tweaked the jawline a bit too, think that works a bit better for her personality.

Handpainted rock fellar.

Good lord!  Sorry for the lull!  Well, my game is free in the world, and while the work is really just beginning there, that means a bit of a breather on the home-front again.

I've actually been chipping away at quite a few personal projects, but my lazy ass apparently cant be bothered to post anything...till now!

Here's one of em, something from a while ago that i've gone back to to polish up a bit (model and texture is mine, but the concept it's based on is not):
