I've been sidelined a bit lately working on some real world painting. Some friends at work recently got me into Hordes/Warmachine, and I've been having loads of fun painting up the minis. It's amazing how much working with real paints can teach you about color.

Lunch Sketch: Female Polypaint
Tried to go 180 from the last one and do a female face. So much harder to nail so it took a bit longer....its so easy to mess up on the little details :( Spent a lot of time looking at Slipgatecentral's stuff for color...that guy man...respek...

Ogre Beast-Hunter
After way too much doodling, of got my Ogre beast-hunter going along. I wanted to stay away from the normal fantasy fare...stick with brutal, but not brutish. I'm trying to push my costume designs a bit more, in particular to push the story-telling of the character. Might refine it a bit more, but it's hitting the level of tribal sophistication I was trying to find.
I've got some other parts of his design (ie: his companions!) started so i'll post those once I get them to a good place.
Looking forward to fleshing this guy out!

Polypaint Hoooo!
Complete nerdgasm tonight...I just discovered that xNormal can now bake vertex color data straight from the OBJ file. Holy shit. Got so excited that I had to do some premature polypainting. Time to get back on that horse!
Anyone know if zBrush has a color picker now...or are they seriously still expecting me to select every color by hand?

Banged this guy up using some of the new zB features, in particular, Remesh. Started him from a sphere and kept remeshing and projecting. Added appendages with zSpheres, baked em down and remeshed the whole thing together, which makes for a great non-linear workflow for working without a basemesh. Honestly, i barely see the need for basemeshes anymore...badass!
Kinda just jammed on this guy, so i didnt really have plans for him, but i might finish him out as a full char...just gotta decide wtf hes supposed to be first.

Face Studies
Some face practise and studies. I'd like to stick to doing one of these a day, but im still a bit slow. My plan for my next 3d model is to redesign a very old character of mine, Nixetta Tarian, and I'm gonna try to go about it the right way. This means ref gathering and studies before I jump in for the final concept.

I've been taking a character concept class with Izzy Medrano at CG mater classes. This guy here was the result of an assignment to redesign a character from the Neverending story book. I settled on Gragraman, "the many colored death", a color changing lion that roams the land, turning all life around him into sand. Such an awesome character, I couldnt resist taking a swing.
